Additional Information and

Program Details

Colorado Homeschool Law: Colorado Law (CO. Statutes 22-33-104.5) states that Homeschooled students must have no less than 172 days of instruction, averaging 4 contact hours per day. Further information regarding the Colorado Homeschool Law may be found here:  https://www.cde.state.co.us/choice/homeschool

Assessments: We recommend using the California Achievement Test for the required assessment of students in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, & 11.  Please visit https://www.academicexcellence.com/ to review and purchase.  Other assessment methods are allowed. Please visit the Colorado State Homeschool Law website for information.

Books: Textbooks will be provided if required for on site classes.  Once enrolled you may also borrow curriculum from our library for home use.  Please visit our Bookroom page for a list of available curriculum and resources: https://optionsbookroom.aurorak12.org

Homework: Teachers are free to assign homework, especially for older students in grades 6-12. Students are asked to complete assignments with the assistance of parents, if necessary.

Grades: Students in grades 9-12 will be given letter grades and K-8th will receive a pass/fail grade. Report cards are provided twice per year at the end of each semester.

Absences: Parents must report absences to the site coordinator.  The last two weeks of September and the first two weeks of October are the official public school counts days which determine funding for the program for the school year. We ask that parents make every effort to have their children attend school on these days.

Dress Code: We follow the APS District dress code found here:  https://aurorak12.org/pol-reg/SectionJ/jica.pdf  We require tennis shoes for students in PE.

Lunch is brown bag and is the responsibility of the student.  Microwaves are not available. We have a closed campus for all students and do not allow sharing of food due to allergies and dietary restrictions.  Lunch should be NUT FREE PLEASE! We also recommend sending a water bottle, labeled with your student's name.

Volunteering: Each family will be asked to volunteer on at least two occasions per year.  This may consist of supervising students during the lunch hour or assisting teachers with special projects.

Field Trips: Optional field trips may be organized to occur outside of scheduled school days. Students enrolled in AmeriTowne will have a single required field trip in the spring. Cost and Transportation to and from field trips will be the responsibility of the parent.

Communication: Program updates and urgent announcements will be sent to enrolled families via Google Classroom. You may reach the Iliff Options site coordinator Leda McDonald via email at LMcDonald@aurorak12.org or via voice or text at 720-602-8547.
